Podcast
I started the Christa Knits podcast in January 2007, planning to produce a show each month. My intention was to focus on knitting design, with interviews of knitting designers and a segment each episode discussing one aspect of creating patterns or the business of selling designs. I spent a fair bit of time listening to non-knitting podcasts, and wanted to offer other podcasters a chance to be on my show by asking them to talk about knitting and the role it may have played in their lives. All of this made for interesting editing!
Getting a show out each month was do-able… back then! I had a much quieter social life, and spending my evenings in front of the mic or audio editing program was easiier to schedule. These days I plan for less post-production time, so episodes are more likely to be just me rather than a number of other voices, and while I hope to put a show out every month or so, the podcast is lower on my list of priorities right now.
What has me excited about returning to podcasting now? I have decided that 2009 will be my Year of Goals, in particular meeting my goals around knitting design, getting published, and building my pattern sales. To keep me on track and excited, I am inviting other emerging designers to join me! We’ll use the Christa Knits forum on Ravelry to set long-term and monthly goals, and I’ll share everyone’s plans on each upcoming episode of the podcast. I figure that making the goals public will help us feel accountable for making progress!
